Background
Cell adhesion molecule 3 (CADM3) is also known as Synaptic cell adhesion molecule 3 (SynCAM3), Immunoglobulin superfamily member 4B (IgSF4B), Brain immunoglobulin receptor (BIgR), Nectin-like protein 1 (NECL-1), TSLC1-like protein 1 (TSLL1), which belongs to the nectin family. CADM3 contains two Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains and one Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain. The isoform 1 is expressed mainly in adult and fetal brain and isoform 2 is highly expressed in adult brain and weakly expressed in placenta. In brain, Isoform 2 is highly expressed in cerebellum. CADM3 involved in the cell-cell adhesion and has both calcium-independent homophilic cell-cell adhesion activity and calcium-independent heterophilic cell-cell adhesion activity with IGSF4, PVRL1 and PVRL3. CADM3 / SynCAM3 interaction with EPB41L1 may regulate structure or function of cell-cell junctions.
